If you're patient and willing to save draws for high value banners, you can do quite well without spending any money. If you're lucky and start at a time when there's good costumes on banner to jump start your account with, you can progress quite rapidly. The faster you can develop your account with high-value costumes, the more free draws you can obtain.

Monthly Free Draws Income
There are always at least 2 costume banners and 2 associated exclusive banners running at a time, each offering 1 free draw per day. There are a few sources of deferrable draws that can be saved for spending on a specific banner you want to invest more into.
If you're able to consistently clear level 10 Fiend Hunt and finish Mirror Wars in rank Dia I every season, you should be able to accumulate almost 250 draws per month. That translates to getting 1 costume to +3 every month, depending on luck. Add in your Selective Costume Enhancement from the Thread Shop as well as grabbing a copy from the powder shop and you've got a +5.

Selective or Regular Costume Draw
One of the most frequently asked questions is whether it's worth drawing on the selective or regular costume draw. There's three main reasons why you shouldn't do it.
- There's no draw point exchange, so no guaranteed costume after 200 draws
- There's no pick-up event giving you tickets back
- It takes longer to get a single costume maxed out, due to the rate-up bonus being distributed across 12 costumes
As a free to play player, it makes more sense to stick to the featured banners. That's not a problem when there's good costumes on banner. When there's a drought, that's when the selective banner starts to get tempting.
As long as you have at least 12 costumes you don't mind raising slowly, there are a few good reasons to do it.
- The costumes you're drawing for are useful at +0 or with minimal upgrades
- You're missing key costumes for upgrading via the selective upgrade ticket
- You're in desperate need of Powder of Hope and none of the current banners are worth drawing on
- Unless you hit the 100 draw point 5* pity, only the selected 5* costumes can appear
- If you're buying draws, selective draw tickets are cheaper per dollar than regular draw tickets because they can only be used on this banner.
There is also a single costume selective draw, but it's only available for a limited time. It essentially lets you put 1 costume on banner: 1.5% chance to get your chosen costume, 1.5% chance of getting any other 5* costume. It does have an exchange just like a regular pick-up banner, but no pick-up event to grant you tickets back.
Exclusives
Generally speaking, drawing on exclusive gear banners is not recommended. They're a smaller upgrade than what a costume duplicate would give you. So if you're going to draw, only do it for a damage character if you're going to take their costume to +4 or +5. Do not waste draws on exclusives for supports, since they do not help those characters do their jobs better. The exception is for accessories belonging to magic characters (Eclipse, Celia, Morpeah): unless you use them for PvP, they're worse than a Venomous Touch because they can't roll crit damage.
By the time I reached my 300th login (2025-01-27), I had 25 unique UR pieces out of 44 (56.8%) and 8 SR (18.2%). I only spent draws on two exclusive banners. I have multiple duplicate URs as well. Of the 19 URs I was missing, 10 are weapons and one is limited (Eris). One of the exclusives I had was for a character I wouldn't own until later (Michaela).
Of the exclusives I was missing on day 300 (2025-01-27), these were the most critical for my roster:
- Venaka (2025-01-28, free draw)
- Sacred Justia (2025-04-16, free draw)
I was tempted to draw on Venaka's when she was on banner the month before, but decided the draws were better spent on the Winter limiteds. Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don't.

| Eris | 2025-10-10 | 13 + 40 | I was at around 50 pity, so I dumped a few draws but got an off-banner |
Duplicate Exclusives
Getting duplicate exclusives is inevitable, even if you're only spending the daily free draws. Besides dismantling them for refining powder and crystals, the only thing they're good for is having alternate stats for the ultimate min/maxing. This is something a competitive player would do, so just let them sit in your inventory until you're ready to use them.
UR Exclusive Gear Guaranteed Draw Ticket
These things are garbage. A year of buying them from the Mirror Wars shop and getting them from Tower of Salvation season rewards yielded exactly 1 5* UR. Don't bother buying them from any other shop.
Property Selective Draw
Most people recommend not purchasing this ticket from the thread shop because the other choices are of higher value. However, you can get one every month from clearing level 4 of the Tower of Salvation. There's also a one-time reward from clearing floor 50 and floor 100 of the Tower of Wrath and the Tower of Jealousy (4 total).
Wind has the best odds of getting a high-value costume. The weakest options are for Olstein and Lecliss, 2 costumes each. Gray's not unwelcome since he's strong in high level FH favoring wind, but he takes a lot of investment.
- Diana (Adventurer of the Unknown)
- Diana (Anti-dystopia)
- Venaka (DJ)
- Venaka (Wind Dancer)
- Zenith (Robin Hood)
- Zenith (Poolside Guardian)
- Nebris (Labyrinth Gatekeeper)
- Nebris (Laid-back Lifeguard)
- Nebris (New Hire)
- Tyr (Starlight Guardian)
Dark has the smallest costume pool. Fire and Light have the largest costume pools, dominated by Lathel and Justia respectively.
Powder of Hope
It isn't immediately obvious, but Powder of Hope is one of the most precious currencies in the game. It's limited by the number of draws you do: one draw = 1 powder. Unlike golden threads, you don't get a varying amount based on the rarity of the costume you get. However, it's always better to spend draws because 200 draws guarantees you a minimum of 3 costumes (2 from 100 point pity and 200 from the exchange) and at least 10 tickets back from the pick-up event. If you opt to spend powder instead after the banner ends, you're missing out on the tickets and the other two costumes. Because the draw point exchange is a better deal than converting to powder, you'll accumulate powder very slowly.
I prefer to buy costumes that haven't been on banner recently, since that might be the only way I'll be able to guarantee a copy. If I want one of the banner costumes, I'll draw on it while it's on banner.

Costume Selective Enhancement (Selective Upgrade)
For the first 10 months, the costumes I chose to upgrade were on banner or were known to go on banner in the near future at the time I upgraded them. I shifted to using them as an emergency upgrade for a better FH score or to upgrade some of the mid-tier support costumes that have eluded me.

|---|---|---|---|
| 2024-04 | Zenith (Robin Hood) | +0 | costume instead of the upgrade ticket |

My Draw Strategy
Whether you spend or rely completely on free draws, it's essential to pick and choose the banners you draw on carefully. This means skipping costumes that aren't going to improve your roster. This also means being willing to commit enough resources to make that costume worth using. If you keep drawing for single copies of costumes, you might not have enough resources to fully invest in the ones that will help you meet your content goals.
I tend to budget for spending 200 draws on one banner per month. This typically yields a +2 or +3 costume. My core supports are all at +4 or +5, depending on what the most important break point is for the costume in question. Unless the costume is limited, I'm pretty comfortable stopping at +3 or +4 when investing into a damage costume, since it's good enough for most content and that last copy will come eventually.
- Decide what my goals are for that costume. Track and Field Captian Levia's best upgrade levels are +2 and +4, while +3 and +5 is best for her Overheat costume. Sometimes there's a minimum upgrade needed to make it effective in the current Fiend Hunter, which can be as low as +1 for SP reduction.
- Draw until I've reached my minimum goal (usually +2 or +3) or 200 draws minus the days remaining on the banner, whichever comes first. This leaves plenty of room to get copies from free draws without risking getting threads. Unless I had really bad luck and needed to do an exchange for that first copy, I save exchanges until the end of the banner.
- On the last day of the banner, evaluate how important it is to reach my final goal. There are 3 ways to avoid spending extra draws: Selective Costume Enhancement from the thread shop, 200 draw point exchange, and buy from the next powder shop (note: only the exchange is available for limited costumes). If it's really important to reach my final goal for that costume and I won't reach it without spending more draws, then I'll do that before I use the exchange.
If there are limiteds on the horizon, then I'll spend a little more conservatively leading up to them to try and save up some extra draws to ensure I can max them out.
My Draw History
They say that hindsight is 20/20. I'm going to share my roster progression as someone who is F2P. My first time spending on selective draw wasn't until June 2025 (Goblin Slayer collab/2nd Anniversary), over a year after I started playing.
- I had no idea what I was doing during my first FH, and I didn't have any max leveled characters yet
- I didn't have a single copy of H.Lathel or B.Helena for the first 3 months I'd been playing, and it took another month before the later was usable
- It's not a coincidence that Diana going on banner in June (1st Anniversary) dramatically improved my FH results
- There were times where I was unable to clear level 10 because I lacked the ability to survive, not because I didn't do enough damage
My goal here isn't to show off. If anything, my account development probably was stunted due to a lack of good costumes early on and my overly concervative draw strategy. I missed several good banners by about 2 months: Maid Liatris, Diana, GC Rafina, and MC Teresse. As a result, I relied heavily on PP Angelica (+4), GC Rafina (+0), and Maid Liatris (+0) for a long time. However, if I'd spent what little draws I had on the selective banner to get the (ie. before I started playing) costumes, I wouldn't have had enough to get the or limited costumes when they were on banner.

Wasted Draws
Thankfully, my desperate newbie phase didn't last too long. I had awful banners to pick from early on, these seemed like good choices. Things may have been different if the selective draw was the newer format that guaranteed your picks, rather than a 50% chance to get them.
- I often consider Professor Schera to be my newbie mistake. Having her at +3 for the SP reduction wasn't a complete waste, but the damage wasn't good enough to carry me until a good banner came along. The only thing positive that came out of it was that I got a copy of Maid Liatris.
- I regret drawing on Bright Moon Dalvi the first time I saw her on banner. It felt like a lot of draws to get +0 and I wasn't willing to commit more than that. It's not that it's a bad costume, it was just not a good new player investment since she didn't help me do anything that my existing costumes couldn't already do. It felt like less of a waste once her Summer costume came out and I could use her for FH. I did eventually +5 her with the help of property tickets.
- I regretted spending draws on Red Riding Hood Rou while she was on banner for a long time. It was considered a PvP costume and I got no value out of it until Tower of Salvation came out. Even then, I'd rather have Helena or Liberta, even if they're buffing the wrong damage type for my deck. A year later, she ended up being a useful companion for Blade. During the 2.5 anniversary (almost a year after Blade's release) she got an incredible buff, just in time to finish getting her to +5 from off-banners.
- I regretted drawing on Olivier's EX with a week left on the banner. I broke my own rule about not drawing on an exclusive until the last day of the banner. I thought that getting it might let me avoid buying her Fallen Wings costume from the powder shop, just so I could clear level 12 on the first day. I spent 70 draws to get one with no off-banners and I ended up getting one from a free draw 3 days later. I didn't even make it to the top 1000, but I did clear my first level 16.
- I probably should have stopped at 200 draws on Boo Ghost Granhildr, leaving her at +2. I had her at +3 when I did my final clear and lucked into an extra copy just before the 2nd exchange. I was willing to commit at the time because I already had +5 Comeback Idol, but I worry this is going to be one of those niche costumes that will be useful once and then never again.
- I probably should have stopped at 200 draws on Faithful Wings Olivier. Not because it was a poor investment, but because I had shit luck and should have cut my losses. I ended up at +1 after 200 draws, then only got 1 other copy after spending another 200 draws. So +2 from draws, +4 after 2 exchanges, and +5 from pub recruitment. If I'd stuck with the 200 draws, I would have finished at +3 while she was on banner and grabbed the +4 from the powder shop. I'm currently drawing on light property tickets, so I probably could have coped my way to +5 that way. Win some, lose some. Thankfully, I only need to draw on the new banners for the 2.5 Anniversary.
Not Enough Draws
After the desperate newbie phase came the overly conservative phase. It stings when you get threads from an off-banner draw on the only +5 character you have. I was confident the costumes I was drawing on were good, but I hesitated going all in. My reasoning was that if I left room to get copies from an off-banner draw, then I've essentially saved tickets and powder for something else. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. More often than not, it takes several months to get that last copy.
The other part of my hesitation came from a fear of not being able to max out the costumes I really needed. First was the meta reruns during the anniversary, then it was an endless stream of powerful new costumes, then the Senran collaboration, then the limiteds for the 1.5 anniversary. Avoiding spending as much as possible so I could have something that might be better in the future only made me regret later that I didn't spend on the things I really wanted at the time they were available. It's good to save so you can afford to get nice things in the future, but not if you skimp drawing on something you need and end up having to spend multiple selective upgrades or add them to your selective banner later.
- Pure White Blessing Refithea: I was at a point in my roster's development where I didn't see the need to draw more than a single copy. As far as I was concerned, Diana was better. I could barely manage to have a single FH team, 2 strong teams seemed like forever away. It only took a few months before I started kicking myself for being so short-sighted.
- Eris: Most people didn't see her true value at the time, and I was no exception. Even if I had, I just didn't have the draws to make her good so I probably made the right choice to skip instead of going half way. When there was a rerun, I decided to wait and see if I got the EX from a free draw, since she was barely relevant anymore. On the last day, I had about 50 pity, so I spent until I got a 5* EX, but it was an off-banner, so I decided to pass. It was dumb, I regretted it 2 days later.
- DJ Venaka: I regret not getting more copies when she was on banner. I was holding out for the upcoming H Lathel and B Helena reruns, wanting to make sure I had enough draws to guarantee what I needed. It ended up working out alright, but it would take over 6 months to go from +0 to +5.
- Nebris is the Cinderella of BD2. It can be hard to predict if that new character will become as good as Nebris or as bad as Michaela based on their initial costume. Nebris's first costume was considered nothing special, since it was just for self-buffing. Her second costume was good enough to draw for at least a few copies, but the timing of her release was poor (Senran collaboration was at the same time). However, there were people that outright skipped the broken third costume and are still regretting it. It took 6 months to go from +0/+0/+2 to +2/+4/+5 through lucky off-banner draws and lots of wind property tickets. I recommend not doing this if you can avoid it.
- Sacred Justia: Despite being broken OP, I hesitated to max her out. I thought +3 was good enough to coast the rest of the way on off-banner draws. I needed to make sure I could +5 B Helena, since her banner was coming up next. Not having the cooldown reduction did hurt for a long time on Light Season FH, but I was always able to clear level 10 without it. It would take over 6 months to get that +4 when she appeared in the PvP shop. I also skipped drawing on her EX and it took 10 months to get it from an off-banner draw.
- Pool Party Justia: It's easy to regret not drawing more copies after the fact. At the time, she was considered PvP only, so I wanted to save my draws for something else. It wasn't until Tower of Salvation came out that she became truly valuable for PvE. Though, as ToS became easier thanks to costume upgrades and OP artifacts, her value has dropped somewhat.
- Beach Vacation Eclipse It felt unlucky to spend ~240 draws to get +2 at the time. Unfortunately, the collaboration was coming up soon, so I stayed on the conservative side.
- New Hire Seir: When she was on banner with Deal Snatcher Luvencia, I chose Luvencia instead because she seemed like the more useful investment. Dark was my weakest element at the time. I was worried that Seir would only be relevant for that FH and never used again, but she ended up being a permanent fixture in GR and occasionally useful in FH. As a result, I ended up in "unidupe hell" for a few months to fix it. Then they added the Recommended 5* tickets, making me regret wasting the selective upgrades.
- Wind Dancer Venaka: I recruited her from the pub and used a selective upgrade, then skipped drawing on her because I was starting to worry I wouldn't have enough draws saved for the Winter limiteds. I probably would have been fine taking her to +3, but it was better to be safe than sorry. Probably should have taken her out of the powder shop instead of T&FT Loen, too. However, things worked out thanks to wind property tickets and the addition of the Recommended 5* tickets.
Miscellaneous Notes
- Sylvia is my waifu. She's meta for water season FH and GR but rarely used otherwise. I had terrible luck with off-banner draws and spent more powder on her than any other character.
- Last Hope Loen: my first +5. I ended up getting 300 threads about 2 weeks after I maxed her out. Because of this, I tend not to draw to +5 unless it's a really important upgrade.
- Comeback Idol Yuri: This is the closest I've gotten to +5 from strictly off-banner draws. I made a powder shop purchase in July 2024, bringing her to +4. The final copy came in March 2025. Her EX was the first exclusive banner I spent draws on.
- Wild Dog Luvencia: I wasn't intending to take her to +5, but I ended up with +4 on the last 10-pull for 200 draws so I may as well do the exchange. The selective upgrade was spent early on in the banner when I wasn't certain if I'd be able to max out the limiteds, but I needed the +1 for SP reduction in FH.
- Shadowed Dream Sonya: I only intended to draw to +4, but I ended up with a double when I was already at +2 and had an exchange ready to use.
Loen felt like a disappointing investment for a long time. Up until this point, everything I had was geared towards physical characters. The first fire FH after her release (Berserker) only gave physical buffs. The new story pack after her release (Song of Snow) was full of water enemies, so I didn't get to use her there either. In fact, it took a couple more months before I'd have enough other supporting costumes to really make her shine (B Helena, Levia). Today I'm quite happy that I have her because of all of the content she's allowed me to do. I guess the point I'm trying to make here is: don't skip genuinely good banners just because they don't fit into what you currently have. You want to fill in the areas where you're weak.
